I am easily bored of the beach. I assume its because I grew up with it always being there. I am not an extreme sport person, nor do I own a boat (although I temporarily did last year-long story). I need to do "something else" when I go to the beach or I leave after an hour. I always think a good alternative to laying on the beach is walking on it. The walk from Robert Moses beach to Fire Island takes you past the light house, down winding planks and into the western towns of the car-less island of fire. It can be hot, so I suggest breaking the route up by walking along the beach during some of it (If you don't mind walking through nude beaches). It is a perfect combination of beach and activity that makes me appreciate living on an island.
